I Had A Dream

And in that dream I had a vision. A vision of the future of food. Ladies and gentlemen of Austin (and other places, maybe, if you’re lucky) I present the ideal breakfast: Katz-Gill’s Sausage & Gravy Latkes!

Of course, the restaurant requires at least two kitchens and two dining areas, but hey, it’s a small price to pay to get two great tastes that go great together working hand in hand.

those were different times…

I’m not sure what floors me most about this. I think it might be Cindy’s hair. But the unexpected cameo of a not-directly-related Austin musician caught me off guard, too (Hi, How Are You).

Anyway, it’s Zeitgeist (I mean, The Reivers) c. 1985. And it’s Austin how it was even before I got here full-time. Check out Croslin’s Rangers shirt. It just goes to show that sincere underground rockers loved baseball long before pitchfork put together a fantasy league.

Oh, and… MAD DOG AND BEANS! The best burger you probably never got to taste. Sigh.

Happy Snow Day, Austin!

48 hours of Winter
is all that I can stand.
I live in a town that has no
trucks for spreading sand.

But 48 hours of Winter
brings a little bit of Zen.
Time to contemplate the world
before we dive back in again.

Just a little pome inspired by the sights I seldom see.

Adult Swim Billboard

Hey Look! Hipster animation fest Adult Swim put up a light-up billboard on Burnet Rd. in Austin. Better still it’s animated. The flip-off/censored bit blinks *very* slowly. Charming!

The Big Arby’s Hat

I live near this object d’ art. Sometimes all the letters work, sometimes they don’t. The variations are quite amusing at times. In any case, it was in fine form the other night so I made with the picture snapping. It’s a vintage piece that needed to be caught on film. Viva los Arby’s!

Happy New Year!

Today is Chinese (and other Lunar-based) New Year. The Asian community in Austin puts on a nice dragon dancing and fireworks show and for once Patita and I made it to the festivities. Click through for more pictures.

Oh, and in case you didn’t know, it’s the Year of the Dog, which is my year. So respect me or I might bite. Or at least sy something mean.

Finally, know your dragons. There might be a quiz or something.

UT Tower, In Orange

Hey! UT won the national college football title! Wow! And that, of course, means tower that’s all lit up. So here’s a picture of it for those of you who either can’t get to Austin in time to see it or who are just too lazy to make the drive and face the crowds.

Did I say “crowds?” ‘Cos I gotta tell ya, it was awful crowded around campus last night. The highlght, which I didn’t manage to capture with my camera, was the jacked-up jeep with three or four pairs of longhorn horns scattered about that was also blaring a recording of the Longhorn band playing “The Eyes of Texas” and the Texas fight song while stuck in traffic right in front of the LIttlefield Fountain (which is pictured in the foreground of this shot, in case you don’t know what/where that is).

In any case, hook ‘em!
