Fuck You, Cadillac

So, I’m watching the Academy Awards tonight and I see a commercial for some kind of fucking Cadillac SUV piece of shit. But before I figure out what the commercial is for I swallow my tongue because, what’s that? It’s the goddamned Pogues performing “Sunnyside Of The Street.” Now, I don’t know if Shane sold the song for new teeth, or if someone else owns the rights now, but to say I was shocked would be, well, an understatement.

In any case, the whole thing pisses me off. Though I’ll admit that I was ever so slightly amused by the fact that they used the original recording, including the following lyrics:

So I saw that train
And I got on it
With a heartful of hate
And a lust for vomit
Now I’m walking on the sunnyside of the street

It’s something like when Carnival Cruises used Iggy Pop’s “Lust For Life” – a song about kicking heroin – in their ads for a nice family getaway.

Still, though, this actually bothered me maybe even more than the first time I heard a Clash song in a commercial. Sigh.

Hüsker Dü - Live on Late Show with Joan Rivers

Actor Ian McKellen and the 85-year-old marathon winner share the late 80s TV stage with the one and only Hüsker Dü. Ian and 85 not included. Two songs from Bob (the calming one), Greg (the middle one) and Grant (the wild one), are…

The fact that Joan Rivers is involved almost takes away from the artful reproduction of the Warehouse: Songs And Stories album cover for the stage set. Then again, why pick on Joan. She was nice to the boys and gave them what was probably their biggest mainstream appearance. So screw it, enjoy the show.
