Penn Jillette, of Penn & Teller fame, takes a stand on NPR’s This I Believe segment…
Believing there is no God means the suffering I’ve seen in my family, and indeed all the suffering in the world, isn’t caused by an omniscient, omnipresent, omnipotent force that isn’t bothered to help or is just testing us, but rather something we all may be able to help others with in the future. No God means the possibility of less suffering in the future.
Now there’s something to consider. And maybe it’s even something to be thankful for…

I personally do not believe P and/or T present a good case for This nor that Recycling and Animal Rights are a waste of time – but if thats what they have their faith in so be it.
Me thinks a lot of these contrairian views are just to “shock and awe” and to get good ratings.
From watching their interviews, however, I do think Penn is actually quite concerned with the state of the Human race – I just don’t think blaming religion is going to help anybody.
(and didn’t Lennon already publiicize this social criticism more poiniantly?)
